EICI's clarion call to Centre

NT Bureau
Chennai, Apr 30:

A team of officials from Express Industry Council of India (EICI), the apex body of all the leading express trade companies in India met the Secretary Department of Post recently to discuss the proposed Indian Post Office (Amendment) Bill 2006.

The meeting concluded with the government inviting the Express Industry to present its concerns over the proposed amendments to the legislation. This follows the posting of the draft legislation on the government website seeking public opinion last week. The EICI represented by its chairman R K Saboo welcomed the opportunity to engage the government in ensuring a fair Act that addressses the concerns of all parties. Saboo said that the legislation should be of such nature that Indian Post and the Express Industry together assist in driving and expanding the Indian economy.

The EICI does strongly believe in a mature debate keeping in mind the sustenance of the industry and the role it plays in a changing and reforming India. In this project, it is more than keen to be part of government effort to work together to reach a workable legislation. The EICI at this point, would like to clarify that it has no intention to strike work or to seek legal recourse.

It may be noted that EICI is an association that aims to protect and promote the common interests of Express Industry and its members. It's activities include interacting with the government, customs and other agencies. Owing to the work done, EICI has been bestowed upon with custodianship for the inbound and outbound Express Consignments landing at IGI Airport, Delhi and inbound Express consignments at Sahara Airport. EICI has been successful in eradicating major bottlenecks and delays caused to Express Industry.
